Provincial Funding Supports Accessibility & Emergency Preparedness
Council recognized two recent provincial funding announcements for Lucan Biddulph. The Township received $6,863.48 through the EASE program for a new accessible door at the Lucan Library and $14,109.22 through the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant to purchase radios that will strengthen communications during emergencies.
Minor Variance Approved – 34849 Roman Line
Council, sitting as the Committee of Adjustment, approved a minor variance for 34849 Roman Line to allow the construction of a grain weight scale with a reduced setback from the Township road. No public or agency concerns were received regarding the application.
Middlesex County Provides Annual Update
Middlesex County Warden Sue Clarke and CAO Paul Shipway provided Council with an update on County initiatives and shared services. Discussion included future funding for Middlesex County Connect, the Library Master Plan and the potential need for a crosswalk on Saintsbury Line North as development continues and the new school moves forward.
Industrial Area Land-Use Concerns Discussed
Council heard a delegation regarding proposed uses at 34407 Saintsbury Line and concerns about compatibility with neighbouring industrial operations. Township and County planning staff provided information on the property's existing agricultural zoning and permitted uses. Council discussed the importance of supporting existing industrial businesses as the area continues to develop.
Winter Maintenance Operations Reviewed
Council received a report reviewing the Township's winter maintenance operations following another challenging winter that included repeated high-wind and lake-effect snow events. Overall, operations were reported to have gone well, and Council thanked Public Works staff for their efforts throughout the winter season.
