Notice of Upcoming Construction – Main Street
May 1, 2026 Update
The estimated start date is May 11th. That date is dependant on another job being finished by J-aar Construction in another location. As mentioned previously, crews will start on the North side of Main Street first.
There will be a trench dug across Market street at the intersection with Main. We expect that Market St will be closed for one day. Advance notice will be provided on our website (www.lucanbiddulph.on.ca).
Sidewalks will be cut and removed.
On the North side, there is an existing cut-line that is about 2 feet from the store fronts. The sidewalks will be cut along that same line and removed from that edge to the road. That will leave a small pathway for customers to access the storefronts and entrances for tenants.
On the South side, the sidewalks will be cut approx. 2 feet in from the curb. That should leave plenty of room for customers and tenants to access building entrances.
While the work is being done, gravel will be placed into the work area, pylons and tape will mark the area as well.
*Please note that during this time sidewalk access will not meet accessibility standards*
Sidewalk replacement.
Once the light posts are replaced, the sidewalk will be poured. The contractor will pour the sidewalk on one side of the street in one – two days. The cement must cure for 24 hours before pedestrians can walk on it and 5-7 days before vehicles can drive on it. (*reminder that there is still a small portion of walkway in front of the businesses that will remain open). For anyone with a mobile scooter….they are considered a pedestrian and will be able to use the freshly poured concrete after one day.
The Tunnel
When the sidewalk is poured in front of the Tunnel, that passageway will be closed to vehicle traffic for 5-7 days. The owner of the parking lot between BMO/New Orleans has offered access on their property for pedestrians. No parking allowed. Parking for residents, visitors, tenants etc will be on the side streets or in the Township Municipal lot. No parking tickets will be issued.
The entrance to this lot will not be done when the rest of the sidewalk is being poured for the rest of the North Side. The contractor will ensure that access to the back is available either through this lot entrance OR the tunnel entrance. Those two entrances will not be blocked off at the same time.
BMO
Access to the BMO Main Street parking lot will be closed for 5-7 days when the sidewalk is poured.
Dairy Lovers
There will be some work done in the area beside the store on the corner section. It will take approx. 5-7 days while the contractor works in the corner area. You may want to delay putting out your picnic tables etc until everything is poured and complete. This should not affect access to the store.
Post Office/Municipal Parking Lot
The contractor will leave one entrance into the parking lot open at all times during construction.
Chucks
Access will be off of Market St while the Main Street entrance is closed for pouring of sidewalk concrete. The Township will be providing signage to direct customers to the Market Street entrance.
