Council Meeting Highlights – May 19, 2026

Provincial Funding Supports Accessibility and Emergency Preparedness

Council celebrated the recent receipt of two provincial grants benefiting the community. Funding through the Enhancing Accessible Spaces for Everyone (EASE) program supported the installation of a new accessible door at the Lucan Library, while Community Emergency Preparedness Grant funding enabled the purchase of emergency communication radios to strengthen municipal emergency response capabilities.

Minor Variance Approved for Agricultural Operation

Council approved a minor variance application for 34849 Roman Line, allowing the construction of a grain weight scale with a reduced setback from the Township road. The approval supports ongoing agricultural operations while maintaining the intent of the Township's planning policies.

Industrial Park Land Use Concerns Discussed

Council heard a delegation from Glavin Coating & Refinishing Ltd. regarding concerns over potential residential and seasonal uses on lands adjacent to the industrial park. Discussion focused on compatibility of uses, planning regulations, and protecting the long-term viability of existing industrial businesses.

Middlesex County Provides Annual Update

Middlesex County Warden Sue Clarke and CAO Paul Shipway presented the County's annual update to Council. Topics included strategic priorities, shared municipal services, transportation initiatives, library planning, and opportunities for continued collaboration between the County and local municipalities.

Winter Maintenance Operations Review

Council received a report summarizing the Township's winter maintenance operations for the 2025-2026 season. The report highlighted the challenges posed by frequent snow and wind events and recognized the efforts of Public Works staff in maintaining safe roads and municipal infrastructure throughout the winter months.

Emergency Services Collaboration

Council recognized a recent joint training exercise involving the Lucan Biddulph Fire Department and South Huron Fire Department's aerial ladder truck. The exercise provided valuable training opportunities and familiarization with newer residential developments within the community.

Council received a variety of reports and updates, including accounts paid, Middlesex County Council highlights, emergency management compliance results, Seniors Month information, and updates from municipal and provincial organizations.
