Update on Main Street Road/Sidewalk Construction:

A busy Main Street construction season has culminated in the opening of Foodland in the Glenns Shopping Centre at the north end of Lucan with additional stores in preparation to follow suit.

With this new development now open, Council and staff recognize the importance of developing a strategy to accommodate the increased pedestrian traffic to this location and have been working together on a plan.

The first part of this plan, developed with engineering input, extended the sidewalk as well as widened the road shoulder with a gravel base. Pedestrian signage and temporary safety markers are to be installed before winter. This will create a path for pedestrians to safely access the Glenns Shopping Centre over the winter season.

In the meantime, we are also working in coordination with Hydro One to design and install street lights. Hydro One has completed an on-site visit and will provide design and approval to proceed.

Final Plan: Once the street lights are installed, we will proceed to pave the shoulder and add road markers for additional safety. This paved portion will be wide enough to accommodate pedestrian and cycle traffic. We expect that this final portion of the project will be completed in the spring as soon as weather permits.
